The work represents a young woman playing a string instrument, immersed in a melancholy reverie. Edgard Maxence has represented this subject of the woman in prey to the escape of the spirit on many occasions, often represented alone. Our work is a pastel version of the one kept at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Saint-Etienne.
