Rosewood, amaranth and gilt-bronze veneered commode. Finely chased rocaille bronzes, molded marble in Sainte Anne gray with beautiful veining. Our commode opens with 2 drawers. Produced in Paris, it bears the stamp of a fine Parisian cabinetmaker, Jean Lapie, as well as the JME hallmark. Louis XV period, circa 1760.
Jean Lapie, Parisian cabinetmaker, received his master's degree in 1762. Jean Lapie set up his workshop-store on rue de Charenton and worked for merchants and upholsterers. At the start of his career, he produced Louis XV furniture (like our commode), but soon embraced the Greek and Louis XVI styles.
It's a small piece of furniture that can be placed anywhere, ideal for a Parisian apartment or between two windows. Our chest of drawers is in excellent condition. It has been restored by our cabinetmaker with a real traditional pad varnish. There are no accidents to report.
