Rare display cabinet in blackened wood with rich brass mounts. Although our cabinet takes the shape and form of a Louis XVI-style bureau bonheur du jour, it is in fact a collector's cabinet designed to display precious objects such as a collection of miniature portraits, fine porcelain, ivory sculptures and other precious showcase items.
It opens with 2 leaves in the upper part and a flap on the horizontal part (equipped with a clever bracket to hold it open), the openings locked by a fine key. The backs of the display cabinets and shelves are sheathed in crimson moiré silk. Our piece of furniture is typical of the Napoleon III period, when blackened and gilded wood was widely used to evoke luxury. Late 19th century, circa 1860-70.
Our piece of furniture is a rare opportunity to display a collection of precious objects while keeping them safe from clumsy hands and dust, with a piece of furniture that goes well with antique decor.
It is in excellent condition, all glass intact, all brass present, blackened wood varnished with a high-gloss buffer.
