17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Beautiful set consisting of a pair of walnut armchairs, with molded queen backs and topped with a floral medallion and laurel tori. The uprights are topped with acanthus caps.
These seats rest on four square-section sheath legs, each side of which is decorated with a single wide rudent groove.
The armrest consoles are also molded with roughened grooves and are joined to the base by connection blocks decorated with a stylized daisy.
The two armchairs carry under the crosspiece of their seat, the stamp ''PILLOT'' for Pierre Nicolas Pillot (1748 - 1822), Master in Nîmes towards the end of the reign of Louis XVI.
Pierre Nicolas Pillot signed quite a number of works and mainly seats treated in a characteristic Louis XV and Louis XVI style, where one can recognize the double influence of Lyonnais taste and Italian art.
Our armchairs are in perfect condition and are covered with a very beautiful silk from the famous Maison Germain in Lyon.
