Snuffbox of oval form in gold of three colors. The hinged lid is decorated with a fine tortoiseshell guilloche and framed by a frieze of roses, ribbons and foliage in pink, green and white gold. The frame has four panels of the same guilloche. They are framed by Corinthian columns. The whole is highlighted by a stylized laurel frieze.
This snuffbox is characteristic of the neoclassical style that appeared at the end of the 18th century, breaking with the asymmetrical and rich ornamentation of the rocaille style. This snuffbox, by its decoration with columns, and its friezes of laurel belongs to the neoclassicism. Work of the Louis XVI period.
