17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Very nice set in beech consisting of six cane chairs with flat backs, five of which are stamped by the illustrious Lyonnais carpenter Pierre Nogaret.
The crosspieces of the backrests and the seat as well as the top of the legs have a floral decoration carved with vigor and unique on each of the chairs.
The pronounced curve of the base, the quality of the wood and the sculptures, the rigorous sense of proportions, the elegance of the curves and the depth of the moldings also clearly underline the creation of these six seats by Pierre Nogaret.
To complete this authenticity, five chairs bear the stamp “NOGARET A LYON” with this singular feature of the 'Y' leg which folds down to the left.
The location of the stamp is on the rear cross member of the chassis as was strictly customary on the caned flat back seats of this famous Lyonnais carpenter.
We add to this set six ''model'' chairs, made later with the same quality of execution in mind : certainly an order to complete a living room of a large property or castle.
