European Works of Art from the Middle Ages to the XVIIIth century
Superb bronze sculpture of Achilles or God Ares (Mars in Roman iconography), presented as a standing Greek warrior, about to draw his sword with his right hand.
Probably based on an unidentified antique model, our sculpture shows a powerful and idealised male anatomy in a dynamic posture, by means of a great technical quality, visible in details such as the face, the helmet, or the magnificent work of the drapery. Probably by the hand of an Italian or French artist during the XIXth century.
