Rare small secretaire inlaid with rosewood and violet wood in sinuous frames, it opens to a flap and a drawer in the upper part, two doors in the lower part.
The flap lined with leather discovering compartments and four small drawers, one with the inkwell and the penholder of the period, the entries of locks in chased and gilded bronze of origin.
It is topped with a breche de Saint Maximin marble top molded with a corbin beak.
Stamped L.N. MALLE and three times JME on the right rear post.
Parisian work of the Louis XV period.
Very good condition, usual restorations made by an experienced cabinetmaker, stamped varnish.
Louis Noël MALLE (1734 - February 27, 1782) received master on November 18, 1765, renowned cabinetmaker installed in the street of the Faubourg Saint Antoine where he had an important workshop and a store. He made furniture decorated with decorative marquetry of ebony, olive wood, colored wood, tortoiseshell and mother of pearl, and others more traditional using veneers in sheet like our secretary. After his death, his widow kept his workshop going until the revolution.
