An andiron is a fireplace accessory. It is a piece of wood or metal often placed in pairs in a fireplace and used to support the logs, so that they do not smother the fire.
It consists of a "trestle" (horizontal bars often made of cast iron) finished by a decorative or functional element, the "head of the andiron".
The Louis XVI style, seeks to return to more sobriety, far from the pomp of Louis XV. The shapes are simpler, more classical, the feet fluted as our pair of andirons.
This does not prevent some delightful decorations and friezes.
