Large Marquetry Commode (145cm) Louis XV Period , Stamp of François Garnier

Large satin marquetry chest of drawers. Beautiful set of ormolu rococo bronzes, it is covered with a pink-gray marble and opens with 6 drawers in 4 rows. Special order, our commode is larger than a conventional piece (145cm instead of the usual 130cm length). Parisian work from the 1740s, it is signed of François Garnier (FG), stamped 6 times on the top.

François Garnier is a very talented cabinetmaker of 18th century ; he began his career in the 1730s under French Regency and died in 1774. His production is always very refined and elegant. François Garnier is the father of Pierre Garnier, one of the most famous cabinetmakers of late 18th century.

Beautiful piece of furniture with elegant proportions, a very rare format to furnish a large room in a castle.

Our commode is in excellent condition: completely restored with a new varnish. The gilding of the bronzes is well preserved. No accident, neither to the marquetry, nor to the marble.
