arometer-thermometer of the Louis XVI period

Barometer-thermometer of vertical form, made of linden wood lacquered and gilded with the leaf treated in burnished and amati. In pure neo-classical style, it is adorned with fine symmetrical carving work, such as olive branches abundantly provided with leaves and fruit, finely woven wicker basket overflowing with ripe figs, garlands of descending flowers, heart grapes and pearls without forgetting fleurons and foliage. A thermometer calibrated according to René Antoine Ferchault de Réamur (1683 - 1757) adorns the upper part, this one is annotated with personal mentions such as heat and humidity, baths, silkworms, sèves and orange trees or ice without forgetting the centigrade notation of Réaumur and of course the name and address of the engineer in this case the sieur Gohin, optician patented rue nouvelle Saint-Eustache n°24 in Paris. The main part sheltering the barometer at atmospheric pressure graduated according to Torricelli (1643) and Pascal (1647) is provided with a circular oculi doubled by a glass pierced in its center in order to modify at will the rotation of the metal needles of the cardboard. The latter is annotated once again with the name and quality of the optician as well as in periphery of the atmospheric variations; such as, great rain, rain or variable vt, bau weather, fixed bau and very dry; a compass rose centers the unit. It should be noted that this magnificent barometer is orphaned of its mercury bent tube, due to the English physicist S Morland.
Parisian work from the last quarter of the 18th century, Louis XVI period.
