Atelier Bergmann stamped (pot with letter B) and PROTECTED under form number 3535 Original year 1928
Cast and chiseled bronze with original cold paint.
Hans Deutike (born 1887 - 1953) second generation editor at Deutike Verlag ordered this owl from the Bergmann BronzeVienna workshop in 1928 as a symbol of wisdom on the occasion of the company's 50th anniversary.
The model of the owl as a symbol of wisdom already existed in a different version at the Bergmann company, but here it was specially compiled for Deutike Verlag with books from his own publishing house.
These are Pillat Dimmer's Ophthalmology, Jakob's Anatomy and Cerebrum Histology Volume I and Dr. F. P. Tretwell Analytical Chemistry Volume I all successful editions of Deutike Verlag.
On the top book, on an engraved brass plaque, is the year 1878-1928 for the company's 50th anniversary.
The sculpture was in the publishing house until the death of Hans Deutike in 1953 and was probably not privately owned until 2019 when the Deutike publishing house was sold to Paul Zsolnay Verlag.
A unique collector's item that only exists once in this release.
