A Louis XVI marquise stamped Jacques Cheneaux in molded and carved natural walnut wood. The woodwork of this elegant marquise runs at the same time so that its large flat backrest with a very flared hat seems to be extended by armrests with cuffs, themselves extended by consoles forming part of the belt by their locations directly above the front foot. Cubic connecting dice extend the visual by unifying consoles, belt cross members and base. This consists of four feet; its right forelegs complete the ensemble. All four are tapered with rudent grooves, strangled in their tops pinched at their bases. All of the woodwork is harmoniously highlighted with pinch moldings. The connecting dice are carved with clover foliage. The wide, flat backrest is crowned with a hat recess punctuated at each end with pyramidal plumes of extreme finesse, completing the ensemble of grace and harmony without the slightest overload. Balance, nervousness, elegance and quality are the terms most appropriate to this very beautiful and very fine marquise. It should be noted the great care taken in connecting elements of irreproachable quality. The stamp: J Cheneaux for Jacques Cheneaux is stamped under the rear cross member. Jacques Cheneaux, master in Paris on May 24, 1756. Carpenter in seats Jacques Cheneaux practiced rue du bout du monde, near the Saint-Eustache church. The marquise is a very rare seat designed in the 18th century. As its name suggests and like the Broken Duchess, it is reserved for an elite of the nobility. With a particularly wide and low seat, it is a single sofa that allows ladies to enjoy the warmth of the fireplace. Matched with large extra cushions, it allows the wearing of a simple muslin dress like that of the largest basket dresses. Period inventories named it "Loveseat".
