17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Very beautiful Virgin and Child "in Majesty" carved in the round, 15th century.
The Virgin is seated on a throne, she holds the infant Jesus on her right knee. She is wearing a long dress and a coat with a very pretty star clasp at the neck. Her face is soft, her mouth is small. It is sculpted with great finesse.
Marie wears a crown placed on a pleated veil.
The infant Jesus holds the earth globe in his right hand and blesses with his left hand. He has a chubby face, wearing charming little curls.
The gentleness and the expressions that emerge from the faces of the Virgin Mary and the baby Jesus testify to the high quality of this German Gothic sculpture.
