Sculpted boxwood statuary group, 16th century, representing the episode of the "Charity of Saint Martin".
The Saint is represented on his horse, dressed as a Renaissance gentleman.
At the foot of his mount there is a naked beggar with his left leg amputated.
The Saint turns around and shares his cloak, cutting it with his sword.
At the top of the plinth there is a medallion of the Virgin and Child.
This charming group is finely carved.

Historical annecdote :
Saint Martin, had to follow his military father according to his assignments. Saint Martin's father was disappointed to see his son turn to the Catholic faith and he enlisted in the army at the age of 15 (while the legal age for enlistment was 17).
