Pair of brass andirons called "marmousets".
The andirons owe their name to their form : at the origin, was that of small dogs (‘chien’ in french) or squatting animals which gave first ‘chiénet’ or ‘chiennet’ then ‘chenet’.
These small two very refined andirons were probably disposed in the chimney of a bedroom.
Their decor consists of a female bust crowned supporting an elegant top. On both sides, a fantastic animal with an open mouth coils on its own scales body.
