Cast iron and veined white marble
Oval in shape: H. 47 cm. L. 44 cm
This old sign (perhaps of an inn "to the rider"?) Is adorned with a musketeer riding on a white veined marble medallion.
17th century period
The Carnavalet Museum in the Marais district of Paris, houses a unique collection of signs from the 16th to the 20th century that offer a tasty evocation of the atmosphere of the streets of the capital. The merchants, who addressed to an often illiterate public, attracted the attention of the barge by the cry but also the image, which explains the beauty and the ingenuity of the signs which mix griffins, fauns, black cats, horses. and utensils of daily life.
