Madonna della Seggiola, according to Raphaël, Italian school early 19th century

According to Raphaël, La Vierge à la Chaise or Madonna della Seggiola.

The Virgin Mary holds the baby Jesus in her arms, both of them look at the spectator while Saint John the Baptist as a child, holding his cross, adores the messiah.

The Virgin wears an ornate shawl on her shoulders, a great tenderness emerges from her gaze.

Beautiful oil on canvas. This large tondo is framed by an important gilded mecca frame bringing its dimensions to 96 by 96 cm. Mecca gilding is an Italian technique consisting of the application of silver leaf, not gold, which is then coated with a golden varnish called mecca. It’s this typical Italian process that achieves this pale gilding with silver highlights.

Italian school, region of Tuscany. Period early 19th century.
