Although still anonymous, this beautiful study shows several influences, particularly those of Perino del Vaga (1501-1547) and Baldassare Peruzzi (1481-1536), which leads us to propose a dating towards the end of the first half of the 16th c. It is likely that it was carried out in Rome, but Bologna could also be a credible alternative. The skillful combination of the fine hatching in various orientations with the use of wash offers an immediate and accurate vision of this Virgin and Child. We are invited to witness the intimate scene where infinite tenderness and great simplicity are mixed together.
The work is presented in a beautiful tabernacle frame in antique black wood.
