The vase gardener, a Soft-paste porcelain biscuit from Sèvres, represents a pretty girl in profile, dressed as a theater gardener, stretching her skirt filled with flowers in front of her. At his feet a vase containing flowers.
This biscuit was taken from a stone sculpture made by Vasse for the Crecy dairy, built in 1753 for the Marquise de Pompadour.
Four stone sculptures were made for the Crécy dairy by Allegrain, Coustou, Vassé and Falconet.
Defermex, on a drawing by Boucher, was commissioned from 1754 to execute for Sevres, terracotta replicas, to be drawn in biscuit, this series is known under the name "Children of the King"
This biscuit in soft paste, signed "F" of Falconet is part of this series and was realized under the direction of Falconet Sèvres between 1757 and 1766.
