Offered by Le Cabinet d'Amateur
A large octagonal dish in Rouen earthenware from the late 17th century, decorated in high-fire blue monochrome:
- on the rim and margin, a border composed of a frieze of gadroons typical of this factory and a double line, supported by a wide frieze of lambrequins and embroidery of the highest quality.
- In the center, the wedding coat of arms of Yves Courtoys de la Ville-Asselin and Mathurine Elisabeth Guillaudeu, married in 1689.
The Courtoys de la Ville-Asselin family belonged to the noblesse de robe of Brittany, and since 1684 Yves Courtoys had held the position of chief clerk of inquiries at the Rennes parliament. The coat of arms is azure, a cigne argent, between three mullets argent, two in chief and one in base.
Mathurine Elisabeth Guillaudeu de la Bichetière's coat of arms was: azure, a gauntlet palewise argent.
This beautiful dish, in perfect condition apart from a few tiny chips, may have been made on the occasion of their marriage in 1689.
