Cup with polychrome decoration has istoriato majolica Urbino representing the judgment of Solomon. Inscription on the back "Sotezin Salamone / doidone gel / 1551".
The general impression, the composition of the scene, the disposition of the characters, their expressive treatment recalls the manner of the painter of Zenobia in Pesaro.
Diameter: 25 cm.
Several pieces reattached and gaps in the pedestal restored.
References: an Urbino dish bearing the inscription Moise Accipie tabules // A deo and the date 1551 is on display at the Anton Ulrich Museum in Braunschweig: Johanna lessmann, Italian Majolica, Catalog of the Collection, Braunschweig 1979 p. 272, No. 325. It is probably part of a set and must come from the same workshop as our cut. Their inscriptions seem identical.
