Pair of rocaille andirons of the purest Regence-Louis XV style from the years 1720-1730. They are composed of the classic Louis-Quatorzian vase completely revised to conform to the new taste. Thus, one can hardly distinguish the axis of the vase which seems to be unbalanced by a profusion of plant ornaments organized in a spiral from its foot to its neck sum of a seed.
The vase rests on a large shell treated in the manner of a very ribbed cabbage leaf which surmounts other elements of the Louis XV vocabulary such as the clasps and the shell as well as a Louis XV acanthus console base.
The andirons are highlighted by an abundant chasing contrasting the burnished flat surfaces and the chiseled natural ornaments.
Pair of rocaille andirons, gilt bronze, early Louis XV period. Size (H x W x D): 33,5 x 21 x 13 cm.
Very good condition. Beautiful old gilding.
