Francesco Solimena (Canale di Serino 1657 - Neaples 1747), workshop
Measures (cm): 155 x 102
The splendid painting in question, dating back to the late seventeenth century, was recently acquired by us from a bequest of a Roman noble family.
The work, depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds, is striking not only for its size and spectacular way, to the vivid colors and great emotional intensity of the subject. The centerpiece of the performance is made by the Virgin that deviates the two edges of the sheet, revealing the child to those present, who watch adoring; behind St. Joseph, while all around people pay homage to the Holy Family with acts of devotion. The top two angels holding up garlands of flowers to celebrate the announcement of the birth of the Savior.
The painting is in excellent condition, and is accompanied by a beautiful gold frame contemporary.
