This refined corbeille sofa, made in Genoa, Italy, around the mid-18th century during the Rococo period, features a semi-oval structure whose backrest curves smoothly into the armrests in one continuous, enveloping line. The walnut wood frame, left with a natural finish, is carved with floral and plant motifs at the center of the backrest and the apron below the seat. The molded frame, with its flowing lines, outlines the backrest and armrests adorned with rocaille carvings, as well as the seat apron and the legs. The nine legs are curved and elegantly shaped.
This three-seater sofa is upholstered in velvet fabric, which is in good condition.
Overall, the sofa is very graceful and decorative. Its enveloping shape and delicate legs make it appear visually light, minimizing its spatial impact. It is particularly well-suited to be combined with both antique and contemporary furniture. It can also be used as a centerpiece sofa.
