The Chinese deity of war is seated. On his robe are depicted the six dragons symbolizing good luck. Bronze cast using the lost-wax technique, Chinese work from the early Ming dynasty, 15th-16th century. Traces of red and gold lacquer remain, but this lacquer was added late; it crudely covers the superbly carved patterns on the robe. With the lacquer gone, the statue has regained its original splendor. It is very rare to find a statue of Guan Di wearing the six-dragon robe, especially one of this quality. Very beautiful patina, the feet are missing. The statue is positioned on a simple wooden stand.
Height approximately 58 cm.
