Horses on the inner court of a barn
Oil on panel
Signed lower left: “C. Tschaggeny 1837”
Charles tschaggeny was an artist known for his ability to capture the rustic charm of rural life. In this painting we are presented with a tranquil scene where two horses stand in the shelter of a barn’s inner courtyard.
The imposing presence is softened by the warm, dappled sunlight streaming through the barn’s open doors, creating a play of light and shadow. Tschaggeny’s attention to detail is evident in the way he renders the textures of the horses fur and the nuances of their muscular form. Which is mainly visible in the central white horse.
The artwork captures the timeless harmony between the natural world and the man-made shelter.
