*This is Charles and Robert's ascent in a hydrogen-powered balloon on December 1, 1783, depicted above the Tuileries Gardens, with its rows of straight trees and round basin with fountain in the middle. The figures are not shown, only the flags. The enthusiasm of this flight is reinforced by the inscription “à l'immortalité” (to immortality), to anchor this memory forever.
