Pair of armchairs
Mahogany and mahogany veneer
Dimensions :
France, early 19th century
A very elegant pair of armchairs resting on four saber-shaped legs, with full, curved belts on the front, belted arms and Etruscan-style backs. Carved palmettes on either side of the armrests. These seats owe their name to the particular shape of their armrests, designed so that the “officers'” sabers can fit over the side when seated.
Condition report:
Joinery without play, relined to new in the traditional method, and covered with a tobacco silk damask with florets. Minor wear and tear.
