Ida von Schulzenheim (1859-1939) Sleeping Dog, Fidelity, oil on panel, signed and dated 1889 27x36cm Swedish painter, Ida von Schulzenheim is the daughter of Baron David von Schulzenheim and Ida Sophie Cederborgh, she was born in 1859 in the family estate located in Skedvi in the municipality of Säter. She studied for a time at the technical school of Stockholm, before joining the Royal School of Fine Arts from 1878 to 1884. From 1888, she moved to Paris and joined the Académie Julian where her teachers were Julien Dupré, Jules-Joseph Lefebvre, Benjamin-Constant and Rodolphe Julian. She participated in several exhibitions in Paris and Sweden, such as the Parisian salons or international exhibitions. From 1910, she participated with Ida Thoresen and Elisabeth Barnekow in the creation of the Swedish Women Artists' Association (Föreningen Svenska Konstnärinnor), which promoted the representation of their work at a time when the predominant art societies of the time were exclusively male. Von Schulzenheim was its first chairwoman and held this position for 29 years. She participated in her last exhibition in 1939, at the annual event of the Gävleborg County artists, of which she was the oldest, at the age of 80. Ida von Schulzenheim died at the age of 81 in Stockholm and is buried in Järfälla Church. Ida von Schulzenheim painted mainly animals, especially dogs.
