David Hicks (1929-1988), the star decorator of the 60s and 70s, became the most wanted interior designer in London after he revolutionised interior design in the early 1960s, thanks to Helena Rubinstein who commissioned him with her new Knightsbridge apartment in London. Married to Lady Pamela Mountbatten, cousin of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh (1921-2021), he was also decorator to the English royal family. His chic exuberant style featured 18th-century furniture and contemporary creations, daring to use bright colours in the patterned fabrics and carpets he designed and edited.

In 1969 Barbara Wirth (1941-2013) founded David Hicks France in Paris and opened a boutique on rue de Tournon with her cousin Christian Badin (1930-2019), who was artistic director. Christian Badin designed a line of furniture and accessories that were distributed for David Hicks along with the creations of the British decorator.
