Gilded and burnished bronze.
Measurements: length 34 cm, height 28 cm, depth 12 cm.
Signed “Charles Le Roy à Paris” on the dial.
Refined mantel clock in gilded and burnished bronze depicting a Dionysian cult scene. Two satyrs, an adult and a child, are busy picking grapes from the vine that wraps around the sides of the dial. At the feet of the satyr lies an empty and overturned wine jar. The dial is signed “Charles Le Roy à Paris”, atelier of the Parisian clockmaker of the same name (1709-1771), whose activity will be continued by his son Etienne-Augustin Le Roy; the latter will later assume the prestigious position of Horloger du Roi.
