Bust of Caesar in marble

This large marble bust represents a defield Julius Caesar.

This type is remarkable example of the desire of artists to take the opposite foot to the general tendency of the late Renaissance that tended to exacerbe perfection. In this bust, it is the expression that prevails.
Caesar is certainly represented with a face with powerful features surmounted by a laurel wreath, already mature, are its wisdom an immortal glory. The artist makes it a point of honor to study the physiognomy of his glorious model.As much as a hight quality artistic piece, it is possible to recognize in this work a psychological study tending to transcribe caesar's personality.

A great power emerges from this deified portrait, the movement is dynamic and energetic. The sculptor's execution is refined and highly detailed, in particular for the representation of the breastple, remarkably worked, and the draped toga with deep folds as well as for all the features of his face. Indeed, his cheeks are hollowed out, highlighting protruding cheekbones and his forehead is carefully wrinkled. In addition, his neck has veins, which increase the feeling of deep tension also expressed by his massive jaw.
This marble dates from the end of the 16th century;
A certificate of analysis will be issued at the sale attesting to the dating which is late Renaissance Italian (Laboratory Re.S.Artes a bordeaux)
