Corinthian capital with Neptune's head

Roman art, 1st century and neoclassical period
This Corinthian capital composed of acanthus leaves on one side was later sculpted with a bearded man's face. The character is characterised by emaciated features (high and protruding cheekbones) a thick beard composed of long wavy locks that frame the face and merge with the hair, the eyes are large and slightly drooping, the eyelids hemmed.
The eyebrow arch is thick and wrinkled, thus creating a shadow on the ocular cavities.
The head is girdled with a laurel wreath
The tip of the nose has undergone an ancient restoration (late 19th century- early 20th)
The massive appearance and dramatic expression of the face recall the atlantean busts of neoclassical architectures.
Here it could be the representation of a deity, Neptune or Jupiter.
The reuse of an ancient marquee suggests that this element was to be used to support at XVIII century
