17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
A moving sculpture representing a Pietà, or Virgin of Pity, in walnut carved in the round, polychrome and gilded, from the 17th century.
Mary's attitude is marked by gentleness, wrapping her son's body in her arms, her face leaning towards him, ready to place a kiss on his cheek.
The movement, dynamism and exuberance of the forms that make up this sculpture bear witness to a pure baroque style. The artist thus expresses his sensitivity in order to surprise and move us.
