Cup and saucer
Bisque hard porcelain with gold highlights
Dimensions: H. 10.5; W. 16.5 saucer (cm.)
Paris, circa 1820

Curious plastic cup depicting a Greek helmet with crest. Very fine rendering of the ornamentation, alternating between scrolls and arabesques in cookie reserve, parts in reserve of scales and scrapers with matt gilding and the rest, richly burnished. Also of note is the eagle's head at the start of the stylized handle.

Feuillet in Paris

Son of the Prince de Condé's pastry chef in Chantilly, Jean-Pierre Feuillet learned drawing at the school founded by this patron of the arts. As soon as the Bourbons returned to France, on July 20, 1814, he received a patent from the Prince de Condé and set up store on rue de la Paix, under the sign Aux armes de Condé. Feuillet was one of the finest porcelain decorators in Paris, producing, in particular, highly refined dinner services. He sourced whites from various factories, including those of Nast and Darte.

Work in comparison :
- a Rhythm cup with similar decoration and an identical handle in the Ceramics Museum at Kouskovo Castle in Moscow.

Condition report: minor wear to gilding on bottom of saucer
