This magnificent large canvas from the late 19th century depicts a spectacular panoramic view of the Grand Canal that opens onto the Basin of San Marco. The size of the work allows the Author to describe the scenery, already in itself in a fantastic context, enlivened in a truly extraordinary way by an incredible variety of characters and boats.
The Basilica della Salute and the Punta della Dogana, backlit by a bright blue sky, are the ideal theatrical backdrop for this great movement on the most important communication route of the City that leads directly to the Piazza di San Marco visible in the distance.
It is a work of exceptional decorative value, capable of decorating a large hall arousing wonder, like a large window on the city.
The Author is the Spanish Jose Martorell Puidomenech, who signs himself at the bottom right.
The atmosphere is that of the famous compositions of the 18th century, revisited in a more modern key, while maintaining that typical charm that distinguishes the Venetian spirit.
The painting is in excellent condition, still on the first canvas and complete with the splendid original frame embroidered and gilded.
