A pair of Empire X-shaped mahogany stools resting on carved legs ending with lion claws.
Solid mahogany and mahogany veneered
Paris by 1805
The seat is covered in green wool cloth trimmed with black braid.
The design of these stools, inspired by Roman antiquity, was published in 1802 by Pierre de La Mésangère, Meubles et objets de goût, plate No. 13, as well as in 1803, plate No. 97, under the name tabouret à flasque. Stools of a similar design were delivered by 1804 to Queen Hortense, at her house rue Cerrutti (Christie’s London, March 4, 2004, collection de Madame X, lot No. 309)
