Essay:
This exquisite landscape painting by Anders Wahlgren captures the serene beauty of nature with a mesmerizing play of colors and light. The scene is dominated by warm, orange tones that evoke the golden glow of sunset or the rich hues of autumn. Wahlgren’s technique is evident in the short, deliberate brushstrokes that give the painting a vibrant texture and bring the landscape to life. The moonlight reflects off a calm water surface, adding a subtle contrast to the warm earth tones, and creates a peaceful, almost meditative atmosphere. The sky, tinged with soft purples and blues, seamlessly transitions into the rich colors of the land below.

About the Artist: Anders Nils Henrik Wahlgren (born February 15, 1861, in Lund - died November 7, 1928, in Lidingö parish, Stockholm County) was a Swedish painter, draftsman, and a noted scholar in forest science. Wahlgren's journey into the world of art began in his youth, where he studied drawing and painting under the guidance of the academic drawing master Axel Hjalmar Lindqvist in Lund. His passion for art continued during his time at the Forest Institute, where he received artistic training from Anders Kallenberg.

In 1891, Wahlgren took a significant detour from his studies in forestry to explore the artistic scenes in Brittany and Paris. There, he studied among Swedish painters and at a Scandinavian art school led by Richard Hall. He later became a close friend and student of the renowned artist Bruno Liljefors, whose influence is evident in Wahlgren's works.

Wahlgren's artistic output, though secondary to his career in forestry, was substantial. His oeuvre primarily consists of forest landscapes, often featuring soaring birds, rendered in a style reminiscent of Liljefors' works, as well as detailed animal studies. He was a frequent participant in exhibitions organized by the Swedish Artists' Association in Stockholm, Malmö, and the Gothenburg Art Association, and held a solo exhibition in Malmö in 1914. His works are included in the collections of several institutions, including the Kalmar Art Museum.
