Extremely rare large Florentine, Tuscan apartment mirror from the first part of the Baroque period, in carved wood with claires-voies and gilded with leaf then burnished and amati, of rectangular quadrilateral form.
This mirror is characterized by exceptional symmetrical carving on several levels of depth, rising gradually like a mille-feuille where vegetal scrolls, volutes and acanthus leaves sit symmetrically alongside the Medici family emblem, the Florence fleur-de-lys. A wide, curved frieze of laurel leaves, the main decoration, encases the mirror.
The hallucinatory lightness of the whole attests to the fact that only the hand of a virtuoso master sculptor could have executed it for a wealthy patron.
Dimensions: height 157cm width 115cm.
