17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Rare changer's box from the 17th century, mounted on ash and cherry, decorated with fine boxwood fillet friezes and iron fittings.
The lid reveals a large compartment adjoining two smaller side compartments.
On the front, the flap opens thanks to a latch hidden in the upper compartment, and reveals nine drawers of different sizes and some compartmentalized.
Like weights and scales, this box is one of the tools used by the changer to practice his profession. Tools that allowed him to verify the authenticity, weight and condition of the pieces, and to ensure their classification and security in suitable boxes.
