17th & 18th centuries Furniture and Statuary
Important and large walnut armchair with high flat back in ''gendarme's hat'' from the Louis XIV period.
The armrests are drawn in a flexible line, nicely sculpted with a shell at their ends. We find this flexibility of execution and the finesse of the sculptures on the armrest consoles whose curves harmonize with the front legs by positioning themselves in their extension.
The four curved 'sheep bone' legs are connected by a sinuous, deeply molded X-shaped spacer.
This armchair is covered with a tapestry with small floral pattern dots on the seat and illustrating, on the back, Fortuna, Roman goddess of Luck and Prosperity carrying a cornucopia dripping with fruit.
