Jean-Mathieu Chevallier (1694 - 1768), Master March 5, 1743
Elder brother of Charles Chevallier, he enjoyed great prosperity and received commissions for several aristocratic residences, including the Duc de Talmont's hotel and one of Louis-Anne de Bourbon Condé's châteaux. His presence, in 1745, among the creditors of André Charles II Boulles may indicate a collaboration between the two craftsmen.
The Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris owns a small Louis XV secretary with amaranth and satin veneer by this cabinetmaker.
