Terracotta bust of Saint Jerome by Renzo Colombé-Grangé.
Renzo Colombo was born in Gallarate, Italy, in 1856. He became a pupil of Giovanni Dupré in Florence in 1877, then moved to Turin in 1880, where he worked with Odoardo Tabacchi. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1883 and 1885. Appointed artistic director of the newly inaugurated Musée Grévin in 1884, he died the following year at the age of 29.
The bust of Saint-Jérôme presented here was exhibited at the 1884 Salon, an important year in the sculptor's unfortunately short career. Renzo Colombo-Grangé sent two pieces, the Saint-Jérôme, and a statue of Socrates.
