Ventrue chest of drawers, opening to two long drawers, with concealed crosspiece, inlaid with large poly-lobed ribbons, inscribed in a cartouche of Kingwood frieze on a tulipwood base with butterfly wings; the whole is framed by a border of matching ribbons unifying the ribbons; the whole is embellished with chased bronzes and a black Izeste shell marble top from the Pyrenees. Izeste black marble is remarkable for the intensity of its black color and the light white flecks left by the fossilized shells. The stylistic characteristics of the bronze ornaments - keyholes, pull handles, antique-style lamp feet, combined with rocaille falls and sabots with Greek motifs - place this commode in the 1760s. The discoveries of Herculaneum and Pompeii strongly influenced the stylistic characteristics.
The stamp A.P Jacot for Antoine-Pierre Jacot and the Parisian jurande JME Dimensions: Width 128.8 cm - Depth 59.6 cm - Height 89.8 cm. This piece of furniture has been perfectly restored, the tile veneers have been refixed, varnished and the gilding and bronzes simply cleaned.

Antoine Pierre Jacot began his career as a free laborer in the faubourg Saint-Antoine, where he excelled for some twenty years. Although he was a Calvinist and, under the laws in force, only Catholics were authorized to receive their letters of mastery, he obtained them in 1766, with special authorization from the king. He moved to the Marché d'Aguesseau and then to the Rue de la Madeleine, ceasing his activities around 1785. His furniture, in classical Louis XV and Louis XVI styles, is of fine quality, meticulously crafted and often highly structured. He used rosewood veneers as well as Far Eastern lacquers and varnishes with Chinese-inspired decorations. Examples include a Louis XVI-style secretary in Chinese lacquer, with wide fluted uprights inlaid with copper, and an attractive chiffonier table in green grid mosaics framing rosettes. Mme la comtesse Henri de Gontaut-Biron owned a graceful table chiffonnière, in mosaic with green squares framing rosettes. This work, dating from the end of the reign of Louis XV, comes from the former furnishings of Baron Ogier d'Ivry at Château d'Hénonville.
