Old Masters Paintings and Antique Furniture from the 16th to the 18th century
Lombard Louis Xvi Secretaire in walnut, panelled in various woods, measuring 165 cm high, 45 cm deep, 110 cm wide from the second half of the 18th century.
Beautifully finished Secretaire with two drawers, a small drawer and a cupboard with a marble top finely inlaid centrally and especially on the sides (a very precious feature) with characters and floral decorations.
Veneered in walnut, it was made at the end of the 18th century. In spite of its extreme simplicity ( top, front, flat rectangular sides without any relief ) this piece of furniture owes its elegance in addition to its beautiful proportions and slender truncated pyramid legs to the harmonious subdivision of the maggiolini-style fields.
An important quality of this piece of furniture is the inlay with various woods of different colours, which create a remarkable chromatic effect and make the piece of furniture colourful and warm.
In the calatoia part we find a floral decoration within geometric frames and one can see the greater volume and finish of the design within the floral pastille decoration typical of the Maggiolini workshop.
In the two bottom drawers we find the same style and impact only with figures of warriors portrayed in a moment of rest.
Then we find a drawer in the band under the top with handles and vents, the same as those on the top and bottom drawers.
The walnut interior is wonderful.
