Empire period Imperial armchair in mahogany and mahogany veneer, the openwork back in a 6-bar grid with a handle, the seat upholstered. It stands on baluster front legs and saber back legs. Inside the belt, there are two inventory numbers, the first crossed out, which seems to indicate a Tuileries provenance, and then that of the Palais de Saint Cloud (St C, and the G, which we have not yet identified at this stage of our research). Under the belt, the stamp of Jean Pierre Louis. Empire period, circa 1810.
Jean Pierre Louis, a carpenter received his master's degree in 1787, was a supplier to the imperial administration, then worked for the Duc de Bourbon and the Duc de Richelieu in collaboration with Jacob Desmalter (cf. Le mobilier français XIXe siècle by D. Ledoux-Lebard, Paris 1989, p. 446). Under the Empire, he supplied the Imperial Administration with numerous seats for the Crown's grand officers, which can be found in the palaces of Fontainebleau, Tuileries and Saint Cloud, just like our own.
For this historic armchair, we carried out a Mobilier National-quality restoration: pad varnish, "knife-blade" horsehair upholstery, which we covered with an antique Empire-period silk, raspberry red with a yellow placed motif, enhanced by double gold thread braiding.
A beautiful collector's item in perfect condition. The antique fabric is new and has never been installed before. It is clean with a few small fly spots. The colors are vibrant. Please note that antique silk is more fragile and should only be used occasionally to prolong its life as much as possible.
