Bronze sculpture of "Ariane on the panther" with marble base, early 20th century, based on the original by Johann Heinrich Dannecker (1758-1841).
He was a German artist who worked in Stuttgart for the Duke of Württemberg. He designed Ariadne riding a panther in 1803 and made it in marble in 1814. The original is now in the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt am Main.
It symbolizes “the taming of savagery through beauty”.
