Precious wood armchair with the dimensions of an imperial throne, (approximately 80x90x80cm weight 80kg). Red-brown hardwood with very fine grain, probably rosewood, excellent cabinetmaking work, perfect finishes. Decorated with high relief sculptures of exceptional quality, representing Chinese children playing, fabulous animals and Buddhist emblems. We note several Chinese symbols, the elephant (wisdom and power) holding in its trunk the peaches of longevity, the Ki-Lin (unicorn) (protection of the home), the currencies (fortune), the Shou characters (longevity) , the fish (marital happiness), the bat (good omen). Another symbol hidden in the form of a rebus is represented around one of the children, it is a flight of 5 bats (not 4 nor 3), literally constituting in Chinese the word "Happiness" this kind of detail is very important. According to the former collector, this set was made in the 70s and 80s for one of the members of a royal family, by a Chinese workshop which incised its mark underneath. This mark containing several Chinese characters must provide additional information. This throne is part of a set of 4 armchairs and a triple-sized sofa weighing 200kg. We are selling only one armchair here, but the whole thing is available. The whole thing is impressive and requires a lot of space. Dimensions are Imperial. This is an absolutely unique set which, to our knowledge, has no equivalent.Dimensions are approximate, we will measure precisely on request.
