So-called Regence chest of drawers, from the early Louis XV period, in veneer and marquetry of exotic wood flowers: rosewood from Rio and amaranth from Guyana and natives such as; treated plum, walnut, maple and sycamore; tinted or natural as well as finely engraved on a resinous frame. Generously curved with counter-curved bulges on all its visible sides, the uprights are of course pinched as was the norm in the years 1745 -1750. Our chest of drawers opens with three long drawers with exposed support rails. Its decoration of flowers and foliage is embellished with beautiful ornamentation of finely chiseled and gilded bronzes, such as pull handles, keyholes, without forgetting foliage falls and clogs and rococo lamp base. The whole is topped with a sheet of royal red Hautmont marble, also called "Louis XIV red". This name comes from the special affection that the great monarch had for this marble, which is as harmonious as it is decorative. Louis XIV red is of all Belgian marbles the one which has been most frequently used in the decoration of our monuments; we find it in the palaces of Versailles, the Louvre, as well as the Palais-Royal among others. Balance, elegance, sobriety and quality are the most appropriate terms for this chest of drawers from the first decades of the reign of Louis XV. Dimensions (on marble): Length: 125.3cm – Depth: 61.6cm – Height: 79.8cm. This piece of furniture has been the subject of a perfect restoration such as stabilization of raised veneer, finishing with buffer varnish and cleaning of the bronzes. It should be noted a very discreet old marble restoration.
